Resident teaching park

Previous
Next

Created at the Enrique Olaya Herrera National Park in Bogotá, Colombia, the work questions the relationship of man’s dominion over nature in that territory. Resident educational park proposes a dialogue with the Park through practices of cleansing, offerings, and meditation, to compose the verses of a bolero that personify the Park in which common behaviors are proposed as an alternative to the ecological tensions that are generated within it. The bolero, which is characterized by using metaphors allusive to nature, points directly to the Park and recalls practices of the place, where concerts were held and boleros were common to hear broadcasted from loudspeakers until a few years ago.

Plant on pavement

Gardener - Resident

Residence for artists Lugar a dudas. (achitectural heritage)

Plant on pavement was developed as an artistic residency in «lugar a dudas» of the city of Cali, -a national artistic residency grant from the Ministry of Culture of Colombia- in which I worked as a resident gardener for six weeks. During this time I was in charge of the external and internal gardens of the residence located in the Granada neighborhood, which involved the transition from highly toxic chemical insecticides to organic and traditional methods to control pests, pruning, fertilizing, strengthening growth and stabilizing the natural order of the plants, subverting the role of «gardener» to dominate the wild for domestic benefits and aesthetic judgments.

During the weeks of residence, the relationship with the plants determined the type of ideal practices for their well-being, at the same time as it nourished the work of creation that was proposed from a summons to the place of residence, -Colombian biennial architecture prize, intervention in the heritage-, by questioning the place –lugar a dudas-, from the decisions made by civil engineering and architecture for the existence of the gardens in the configuration of the place. At the end of the six weeks, the installation work built with what was collected, stored and pruned from the gardens, returned as fertilizer to the Earth.

The world of museums

Previous
Next

There is a trajectory in which the earth remains further than the epistemes of time as art and culture are born from the earth to return to it as dust and sediment. Going down the spiral stairs to the Museum’s basement brings back the memory of the historic quote of La Caverna (The Cavern). On its entrance wall the black ink handwriting registers the World’s nature and our passing through it: Inside fire occupies the whole space in intervals and latency. Underneath the dark night’s reflection and in its void, a circular light.

Nature regulates itself in the space-time we have come to. Earth, Fire and Water aquire sense when they summon themselves as a metaimage:The World of Museums-, is a commemoration through the architecural characteristics of the Pereira Museum of Art, the presence of fire in the sound of the fire detector and the baked clay floor tiles. Here, the aesthetic regimes are materialized, in its infrastructures and in its Works, in its walls and its Stone and minerals floor.

A stones´sculptor river

Intervention for site specific

Previous
Next

The Otún River, located in Colombia’s Coffee Cultural Landscape (a World Heritage Site), was renamed the stone sculpting river by the composer Luis Carlos González in a line of the bambuco titled Pereira. From the line, a new bambuco was composed to vindicate the autonomy of the river as a creative subject and draw attention to its proximity to the center of Pereira. The work is thus presented as a creative result of the river, highlighting its value as heritage, the conditions of the river and its neighbors, and questioning the responsibility of public and private entities and citizens.

Site-specific intervention in the Community Action Board Hall in Barrio Zea in Pereira during the 44th National Artists’ Salon.
